Are pigeons like any pet?

I would say yes !

You can love them, take care of them and free them in nature, letting them fly and make them come home to their own dovecotes! Yes, that's right, you got it right, they too have a house. You must know that the pigeon generally from where it flies away the first time in its life, will always return there and flying around the dovecote learns its territory and where its home. For this reason, a pigeon is suitable for distance racing!

But are they really races? Let's see ..

A "race" begins with the cages of the pigeons in a truck specially made with cages, feeders and troughs, then begins their journey towards a destination depending on the distance to be covered. The truck, after reaching the launch site, waits for dawn to open it. Each cage is opened at the same time (see photo above) and the journey begins! Yes, the best definition is "travel", which is why they are known as traveling pigeons and do nothing but go home. (It was the method that was also used in wars to send messages to the base. A carriage full of doves was always part of the army).

Some initially even reach 140 Km / h then, depending on the distance, there are those who fly faster and those less. So, actually, it became a hobby! A pigeon lover loves them and trains them for what they are made for, that is to fly! It becomes a race for the simple fact that, there are prizes and medals to be taken.
